Mountain hunting – the Khomas Hochland & Erongo mountains
Location: 1 Hour drive west of Windhoek
Rugged, tortuous and often inaccessible – even so, the legendary Khomas Hochland region is a paradise for the hunter who likes grand vistas and the ever-changing terrain of mountain folds.
This is the home turf of the beautiful Hartmann’s mountain zebra, with gemsbok, kudu, klipspringer, impala and red hartebeest in good numbers too. Leopard are naturally at home in these mountains and even cheetah home in to prey on the mountain dwelling antelope.
Hunting:
There are few roads along these steep slopes but scouting can be done by vehicle. Thereafter it’s on foot, making full use of the structures and cover afforded by the twisting terrain. Hunting is surprisingly productive, but occasionally a shot has to be declined due to difficulty in recovering the animal.
Accommodation:
Guest accommodation is on a traditional farm, with room options ranging from separate chalets to a guest house.
